I fell in love with Jazz on Friday!

We went to a jazz bar called Royal Garden.  It's located near Hauptplatz, on Burgerstrasse.  All the streets here either end in strasse, or gasse.  It's a small underground bar, and the walls are brick.  There is a small smoking room, then a small room with a small stage.  Most of the bars here seem to be small.  Not so pleasant for the "club" atmosphere, but very pleasant for the Jazz!  I believe Sulim and I were the youngest ones there, but that didn't matter.  I was feeling their Grooooove.  The show on that night was

There was a drummer, a Double Bass player, a Trumpet/Alto Trumpet(?) player, an I Play a Million Instruments and All of Them Superb player, and an amazing Vibraphonist (Don't think of me as well versed into jazz instruments, I just found out half way through my blog post that the instrument was a Vibraphone, not an xylophone).  They were all amazing actually.  During the songs, they all switched off between solos... they worked flawlessly together.  Actually no, there were flaws. But they laughed them off so charmingly that they almost seemed intentional.  Meant to entertain.  The vibraphonist, Luef, was the oldest of them all, and the most enthusiastic!  He lead the band, and introduced all their songs.  The introductions were in German, but there were times when I almost felt I could understand what he was saying, just through body language, stops and starts, and laughter.  Although all of the artists were profoundly spectacular, him and the youngest of the group held my attention for the show.  The youngest was Mr. Million instrument, Patrick Dunst.  He had an array of four or five reed instruments, and also a flute.  He shyly portrayed a charming, nerdy, and passionate personality on stage.  The whole band was passionate, you could tell that their jazz music was keeping them alive and healthy!

In regard to the music, it took you to another world.  Jazz itself has that power I believe.  It's amazing how clear of a picture music can paint without any words.  But while this music took me on a romantic stroll, it also took me: up in the sky?  To the avater world?  Am I corny enough yet?  The vibraphone is such a peculiar instrument...  like an organ and a xylophone combined.  It's sounds are magical.  That's the only way I know how to describe them.  I almost wouldn't be surprised  if the vibraphone was used in creating the wonderful world of Hogwarts and friends.  The vibraphone was the unique quip, in perfectly composed jazz.  No, perhaps I shouldn't say that.  I know nothing of jazz, hahahaha!  However, it sounded so perfect to me.  The reed and brass section working off each other as a team, and the bass and drum doing the same.  Magical vibraphone intro, rest of the band coming in together, reed solo, brass solo, reed and brass together; whole band together; bass solo, drum playfully cutting into the bass solo, the rest of the band chuckling away; whole band together.  And all in a each song!  Can you hear it?  Maybe not... But hopefully when I re-read this blog I can!

I was hoping once I finished my blog my laundry would be done drying, however, I don't think I guessed the right cycle, cause they're just as damp as last time I checked.  I decided the floor will dry them just fine.  Now my room smells like spring, mmm :)

Goodnight everyone,
<3 Nikki
